NAWEA Research Committee
For wind energy to continue to evolve into a more cost-effective, high-contribution, sustainable national energy source that generates a large percentage of electricity production, new agendas are essential in wind energy research and development. The research agenda must bridge multiple disciplines and diverse organizations and foster national and international collaborations to address the science, engineering, economic, environmental, and community engagement issues that are currently limiting the value of wind energy. Further details on these research topics are highlighted in the article Grand Challenges: Wind Energy Research Needs for a Global Energy Transition.
NAWEA will use the following means to facilitate research collaborations and partnerships:
International collaboration:
NAWEA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Academy of Wind Energy to collaborate on conferences, exchanges, data sharing, and education.
Interdisciplinary engagement:
An advisory board will review activities and recommend future directions for the organization. The board will engage organizations with both broader and more targeted interests to supply insight into how NAWEA can facilitate breaking down disciplinary boundaries to create innovative solutions.
Industry partnerships:
NAWEA will provide avenues by which the industry can access the talent being developed at partner universities, such as internships, scholarships, and events for student/industry interaction.
Research Committees:
NAWEA will facilitate the formation of working groups to explore and address emerging, evolving, or critical areas in wind energy research. The objective will be to establish ad hoc working groups that develop topical white papers or other outcomes.
